Hess Corporation presents the Sixth Annual Sean Carney's Blues For A Cure 2016 – Harrison County in memory of John Hursey.  A Free Public Concert to be held Saturday June 25, 2016 starting at 6:00 pm at Sally Buffalo Park, 100 College Way, Cadiz, OH 43907.  The proceeds benefit Harrison Community Hospital Foundation and American Cancer Society Harrison County Relay Teams.  Since inception, this annual charity concert event has raised over $100,000 for the local area.   Blues For A Cure, has raised over $200,000 since Sean Carney started the fund in 2007.

With heavy hearts we will remember and honor our dear friend, and great friend to the Blues community, John Hursey who passed earlier this year from cancer.  John is sorely missed.

"Considerate and generous club owners are few and far between and my friend John Hursey, who passed away in February following a brave battle with esophageal cancer, was one of those rare individuals that musicians truly looked forward to working for at his establishment, The Canal House in Tuscarawas, Ohio. John was an exceptionally dedicated supporter of the blues scene who frequently hired touring artists on weekends and week nights alike, providing crucial routing dates for musicians on the road. I know that John did not always come out in the black when he presented blues acts but he loved the music and was willing to work with artists in building an audience. John was also a dedicated BFAC volunteer, running the food concession at Harrison County Blues For A Cure, tirelessly working over the hot grill to keep everyone fed and doing so with a big smile. Myself and many of the musicians at this event have performed at The Canal House over the years feel a profound sense of sadness both professionally and personally as we express our love for John and our continued prayers for his family." - Sean Carney

Headlining this year’s event is the Matt O’Ree band from New Jersey. With over 4000 entries from across the country, Matt was named the national champion of Guitarmageddon “King Of The Blues” Guitar Center contest hosted by BB King and John Mayer. Matt joined Jon Bon Jovi on the Bon Jovi 2015 Asia stadium tour this past fall. The Matt O’Ree band will soon be releasing a new album that has been in the works for the past 4 years and includes guest performances by Howlin’ Wolf’s guitarist Hubert Sumlin, Blues Brother’s guitarist Steve Cropper, Blues Travelers front man John Popper, Bon Jovi’s keyboardist David Bryan and even Bruce Springsteen.

The rest of the lineup for this year’s event is as talented as ever with the Hadden Sayers Band from Columbus, OH, and their Rolling Soul touring airstream trailer. Tonky de la Pena, from Madrid Spain will join us again this year bringing an international flavor to a stellar Blues lineup.

This event is BYOB. Food will be catered by the Harrison Community Hospital. Water, soda and sports drinks will be available for purchase. Please bring your lawn chairs, sun tents and blankets.
