Sean's Notes
Welcome to Blues For A Cure - Blues Cures Studio Jam Vol. 16 – a heartfelt celebration of world class Blues, musical camaraderie, and the ongoing fight against cancer through the power of song.
This volume fires on all cylinders, kicking off with Sean Chambers & Savoy Brown Rhythm Section, now based in Florida and bringing the heat with several smokin' original tracks including "Red Hot Mama" and "Trouble & Whiskey", along with classic flag wavers like "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone" and "Bullfrog Blues." Sean and his band were the longtime backing group for the legendary Kim Simmonds, founder of Savoy Brown and we're deeply honored to carry that legacy into the Blues For A Cure family.
The theme for this release is Red Hot Guitar, and few embody that better than MVP Scotty Bratcher, who turns in a rousing version of Tom Petty's Blues-drenched "Makin' Some Noise" and digs deep vocally on The Black Crowes' "Sometimes Salvation." Scotty has emerged as one of the Midwest's most gifted and versatile guitarists, and he brings his signature fire and finesse to these sessions without holding back. I was especially thrilled to collaborate with his band on two Blues standards, "I'm Ready" and "Big Boss Man," which felt like pure electricity in the room.
Scotty and Noah Wotherspoon go way back, having cut their teeth in many of the same venues – and that shared history shines through. Noah has long been a Blues For A Cure favorite and his contribution here, a deeply moving version of "Jealous Guy", is an unexpected and soulful high point. It's also important to note the powerful bond that Scotty, Noah, and I share with the late, great Hubert Sumlin. His influence looms large throughout these sessions, as both a mentor and a spiritual presence.
We're also thrilled to welcome back Miss Freddye and her Blues Band, who have become staples of the BFAC family. They return with a sassy, full-throttle rendition of "Leave Your Hat On" and contributing their version of "Peace Of Mind" like only they can will remind us why Pittsburgh's Queen of the Blues continues to command our stage and hearts.
Another rising force on the Blues and roots scene, Jake James Friel, delivers the goods once again with energetic takes on "Walking to My Baby" and Howlin' Wolf's "Meet Me in the Bottom." Jake has quickly become a regular at BFAC, and it's been a joy to watch him grow as an artist while carrying the torch of authentic American Blues.
None of this would be possible without the tireless work of producer Mark Puskarich, engineer Cody Romshak, and the sonic sanctuary that is Tony's Treasures Studio which is just minutes from Sally Buffalo Park, where many of these artists perform each year. We also extend our deepest thanks to our sponsors, whose generous support makes this music and your contribution to the fight against cancer a continuing reality.
So turn it up, share it wide, and know that every note brings us one step closer to a cure.
Sean Carney

Dedications
"I'd like to dedicate my contributions on this recording to the memory of Filipino Blues and R&B vocalist Sugar Pie DeSanto who passed away this year at age 89. Only five feet tall "Little Miss Sugar Pie" made a huge impression." – Sean Carney
"I want to dedicate this track to my parents Thomas and Rosemary and other relatives who have passed away from cancer. Also, to my dear friend bass player Michael Thompson who passed away in February of this year, who got me started in singing blues and playing the bass. Also, the many patients I have taken care of over the years who fought their battles and unfortunately lost. As a twice cancer survivor I will always dedicate myself in fighting for a cure for this life altering disease!" - Miss Freddye Stover
"Sean, Pat & Garnet would like to dedicate our performance to the late great Kim Simmonds, our late engineer, friend and producer Ben Elliot. And, Sean's father, Bob Chambers and his Aunt, Carole Grass. We are proud to be a small part of this very worthy and amazing cause." - Sean Chambers

Producer's Dedication:
After recent releases that I was fortunate enough to not have any dedications. This year, mostly in the month before I write this, I have five people to honor and pray for to beat this disease.
I have to start first with my sister Lisa Zehnal, who was recently diagnosed and has been through her first treatment at The James. Then two days before I write this, I get a call from her husband Mike Zehnal, with a request to get a second opinion from The James for his diagnosis. My mother-in-law in Ukraine, Zina Semigran is fighting cancer. Mike Zehnal's sister in Australia has been on her cancer journey for months. And a dear friend, like family, Frankie Carnes. I pray for all of them daily, to endure the treatments and come out on the other side cancer free.
Tony’s Treasures Productions is proud to sponsor this recording project to help support fundraising for cancer related causes as well as the Blues Foundation. It’s always a pleasure and thrill to work with such great artists and witness their enthusiasm for their craft. Thank you for supporting great blues music and two great causes. – Mark Puskarich
