Sean's Notes

As Blues For A Cure's 20th anniversary rapidly approaches, the incredible wealth of personal bucket list recording sessions encompassed in this 15 volume series gives me pause, and a recorded legacy of fighting cancer, of which to be very proud. That pride is reflected in each and every note on all 15 of these releases. Every volume has an individual flavor and feel, and for me, specific memories like suggesting a tune that really goes over in the studio!  But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Since hosting Southern Hospitality at Blues For A Cure at Sally Buffalo Park in 2016, we've been excited to welcome them back (and show them the new stage!), and 2023 was the year for the return of Southern Hospitality.  A testament to what an amazing studio we have in Tony's Treasures is that Southern Hospitality chose to track their latest recording at Tony's Treasures after an outstanding experience in 2016.

Both on stage and in the studio, listeners can count on Southern Hospitality to deliver a wide range of material from pulsating rock to sensitive and unexpected ballads, one from Willie Nelson in this case. They live up to their reputation with an exciting set of tunes you won't find elsewhere, including running with my suggestion that Damon tackle a Bobby Charles gem from his great LP with The Band.

Although scheduling didn't permit him to join us at the event last year, fortunate routing allowed our great friend Bart Walker the opportunity to join us for Blues Cures Volume 15 and contribute a well chosen country/blues crossover tune from the enigmatic Dan Penn.  Bart is a hero for Blues For A Cure. He always goes beyond the call of duty, acquiring autographs on guitars from no less than his boss Hank Williams, Jr. and recent Rock & Roll HOF inductee Dolly Parton to be auctioned at our events.

The specific flavor of this recording delves more into America's other native music: country. These stellar musicians do an outstanding job of displaying that the similarities are greater than the differences. The results of blending these styles is a success for the listener.  As always, the musicians on this recording donate their time and talents for the cause of raising money to fight cancer, and they do it straight from the heart.  Enjoy!
